A YOUTH appeared in court yesterday accused of threatening to kill a garda while armed with a hatchet.
A prosecution has been brought against the 17-year-old boy for making a threat to kill or cause serious harm to Garda Peter Cunniffe at the youth's north Dublin home on August 25, 2011.
He is also accused of production of a hatchet during the course of a dispute and resisting arrest on the same date.
Judge John O'Connor granted legal aid to the teenager who is in bail and was ordered to appear again at the Dublin Children's Court in September.
A decision has yet to be made as to whether he will be tried in the juvenile court or instead have his case sent forward to the Circuit Court, which can impose tougher sentences.
