Young man charged with IRA membership freed on bail

A 21-YEAR-OLD Dublin man charged with membership of the IRA and unlawful possession of a firearm was freed on bail by the Special Criminal Court today.

Daryl Mulcahy of Matt Talbot Court in the city was charged last week with the unlawful possession of one 9mm Parabellum calibre Beretta Model 9000S semi-automatic pistol at Temple Street in Dublin on December 4.



He was also charged with membership of an unlawful organisation, styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hÉireann, otherwise the IRA on the same date.



Today the court freed Mulcahy on his own bond of €100 and an independent surety of €20,000. He was also ordered to sign on dailyat Store St Garda Station, to surrender his passport and not to associate with anyone charged with or convicted of a scheduled offence.



Mulcahy was remanded on bail until February 19th next year.
