Worker awarded another €133,000 for olive-oil slip

Eileen Monahan

A DUNNES Stores worker has been awarded €133,000 in special damages – on top of €70,000 already secured – over injuries sustained in a workplace accident.

Eileen Monahan (55) was last week awarded €70,000 after she slipped on an olive oil spill on the floor of Dunnes' ILAC store in Dublin city centre on December 1, 2006.

The issue of special damages was adjourned until yesterday at the High Court.

Yesterday, Ms Justice Mary Irvine added agreed special damages, making a total of €203,652.

Ms Monahan, of Beneavin Road, Glasnevin, Dublin, was also awarded costs.

Judge Irvine granted a stay on €80,000 of the award, pending an appeal in the Supreme Court.
