A YOUNG woman who lost her baby four years ago has battled problems with drink and drugs ever since.
Crystal Byrne (22) was found by gardai drunk and stumbling along a busy Dublin road.
Her solicitor told a court that Byrne never received counselling following the death of her three-and-a-half-month-old child.
Judge David McHugh fined Byrne €100 and ordered her to speak to the Probation Service so they could advise her about counselling.
The defendant, of Clanranald Road, Donnycarney, admitted before Blanchardstown District Court to public drunkenness and providing a false name to gardai.
Sgt Mary Doherty said off-icers were on patrol at Nangor Road, Clondalkin, on August 7 when they observed Byrne stumbling along the road.
The sergeant said Byrne walked into shrubbery and was very unsteady on her feet.
When officers spoke to her, she told them her name was “Lisa Byrne”.
Byrne also admitted to having a small amount of heroin at O’Kennedy Avenue, Carlow, last April 1.
Her solicitor told the court she had tragically lost her child four years ago.
He said she started drinking and taking drugs, but has been clean since June.
The court also heard that Byrne probably needs counselling to help her cope with her loss.
