AN UNFAIR dismissal case being taken by Melanie Verwoerd against her former employer UNICEF Ireland has been delayed, writes Breda Heffernan.
A hearing before an Employment Appeals Tribunal was due to get under way on March 19; this has now been postponed.
A representative for the former charity boss applied for a new date yesterday, saying Ms Verwoerd would be in South Africa on a prior commitment.
Ms Verwoerd (45) claims she was dismissed because of her relationship with Gerry Ryan. The organisation, which has said it will defend any claim, has said it ended her contract because she refused to accept the board's view that her connection with Mr Ryan was a "negative issue" for the success of its mission.
