A ROMANIAN man and youth have appeared in court in connection with the killing of a publican last September.
Marian Lungarar (35), of Orchard Court, Blackpool, Cork, and a 17-year-old youth, who cannot be named, were both arrested in Cork on Thursday night and taken to Galway.
Detective Sergeant Tom Molloy told Galway District Court that he had charged Marian Lungarar with the manslaughter of John Kenny (56) at Main St, Oughterard, Co Galway, and with withholding information on September 25. In reply, the accused man had said: "I don't know anything about this."
Judge John Lindsay refused bail, but granted an application for legal aid. The judge remanded Mr Lungarar in custody to appear at Harristown District Court on February 10.
Garda Fergal Kilbane told the court he arrested the youth in Blackpool and brought him to Galway where he later charged him with manslaughter and withholding information.
The judge remanded the youth in custody to St Patrick's Institution in Dublin and he is due to appear again before Galway District Court on February 8.
