Two men and a woman who admitted their roles in imprisoning a man naked in a wheelie bin that was left in a wooded area of Ballymena have been told they will be sentenced next week.
Adam Robinson, who was 20 when he was taped up inside a wheelie bin following a four-day drink and drug-fuelled party, was discovered by a dog walker in September 2013 in an incident described in court as "deeply traumatic" for the victim.
Appearing in the dock of Belfast Crown Court were Teri Christopher Bernard Lau (28) from Dunclug Park, Ballymena, Roddy Patterson (28) from Glendun Drive in the Co Antrim town and Paula Wilson (22), from Main Street in Cullybackey.
Lau and Patterson each admitted assaulting Mr Robinson occasioning him actual bodily harm, and false imprisonment. Wilson - who was then in a relationship with Lau - admitted aiding and abetting false imprisonment.
The three defendants and Mr Robinson had all been partying at Lau's house, and were all under the influence of drink and drugs. Wilson's barrister argued that Mr Robinson had made an inappropriate sexual advance towards his client - but the Crown did not accept this version of events. She was also seen wearing the victim's watch in the aftermath of the incident.
The court also heard that had it not been for a dog alerting its owner to the bin containing Mr Robinson, which had its lid sealed with industrial tape and wedged against a tree, the victim may not have been rescued.
Crown prosecutor Terence Mooney QC told Judge Gordon Kerr QC that Mr Robinson was found naked in the blue wheelie bin in Sentry Hill at around 4pm on September 3, 2013.
When he was released, Mr Robinson was described as being "disorientated and dazed". Mr Mooney said it was the Crown's case that the victim was "deliberately put in the bin to degrade, humiliate or punish him".
Judge Gordon Kerr QC remanded the trio back into custody and said he would pass sentence next Thursday.
