Terror suspect's case against State is 'settled'
A DEVOUT Muslim who is wanted in the US on a terrorism charge has settled his legal action over the inhuman and degrading conditions to which he claimed he had been subjected at Cork Prison.
Ali Charaf Damache (47), an Algerian-born Irish citizen with an address at John Colwyn House, High Street, Waterford, sued the State and the prison authorities arising out of his detention between late 2010 and 2012 while awaiting trial.
The state parties denied the claims. Yesterday in the High Court, the judge was told the matter had been resolved and could be struck out. No details of the settlement were revealed.
Damache is on remand at Cloverhill Prison pending the outcome of a request from the US for his extradition.
