Taxi driver (50) accused of touching young female passenger while driving her home
A taxi driver is alleged to have inappropriately touched a female passenger on her leg while he was driving her home after a night out.
The 50-year-old is accused of putting his hands on the young woman’s thigh.
Judge David McHugh remanded the accused man on continuing bail to appear before Blanchardstown District Court later this month.
The judge also ordered the disclosure of any statements in relation to the allegation.
The accused man, who is from west Dublin, is charged with sexually assaulting the woman.
The alleged sexual assault took place between Harcourt Street in Dublin and Celbridge, Co Kildare on November 1 last year.
The court heard that the DPP has directed summary trial of the matter in the district court.
Outlining the allegation for jurisdiction purposes, Sergeant Mary Doherty claimed the taxi driver was bringing the young woman home when he put his hands on her thigh.
Judge McHugh said he would accept jurisdiction of the allegation, meaning the matter will remain in the District Court.
Lawyers for the man said they will need some time to go through the evidence with their client.
The accused man has not yet entered a plea to the charge.
