Shocking scenes as men brawl outside court

This is the shocking picture of two men going toe to toe in a fight outside a busy courthouse.

The incident occurred outside Sligo Courthouse last Thursday.

The men traded punches in the middle of Teeling Street which held up traffic and shocked passers by.

The fight lasted a minute or so.

It is understood a member from each of two feuding Traveller families were involved.

A sitting of Sligo District Court was taking place at the time though proceedings were not interrupted.

Insults were initially traded between a number of people in the vicinity of the courthouse and the occupants of a van which passed by.

The van stopped and a number of people got out with the fight getting underway fairly soon afterwards.

The fight was broken up when a Garda intervened.

While Gardai are said to be investigating the matter it is believed no statements of complaint have been made.

Gardai are also probing a row amongst members of the same families close to the General Post Office in Sligo on Friday morning.

Rows amongst feuding families are becoming a regular occurrence in the vicinity of the courthouse on Thursday.

One man was arrested following a vicious row recently in which he was allegedly headbutted.

The shouting of insults between families has also been witnessed at the courthouse.
