Second man is charged over stabbing murder
A SECOND man has been charged with the murder of a man who died from multiple stab wounds.
Gardai investigating the murder of Ger McMahon (43) in Limerick city earlier this month brought Paul Colbert (44) to a special sitting of Limerick District Court yesterday.
Mr Colbert, of 105 Lenihan Avenue, Prospect, Limerick, was charged with murdering Mr McMahon at Lenihan Avenue on January 18 last.
Garda Paul Crowley of Roxboro garda station said Mr Colbert made no reply when charged with the murder on Saturday night.
Wearing a black jacket, Mr Colbert remained silent during the brief hearing. Members of the victim's family sat adjacent to him at the courthouse.
Also present were gardai involved in the investigation, including Insp Tom O'Connor and Det Sgt Denis Treacy.
Judge Eamon O'Brien remanded the accused man in custody to appear before the same court again tomorrow.
Last Friday, Mr Colbert's nephew Sean Flanagan (26) -- also of 105 Lenihan Avenue -- was charged with murdering Mr McMahon.
Another nephew Ian Flanagan (22) has been charged with impeding the garda investigation on the night Mr McMahon died.
