A FORMER traffic warden told a court that she recorded her successor carrying out his duties and posted clips of him on YouTube after hearing complaints about him.
Patricia McCafferty made the claim at Donegal District Court yesterday where she was accused of harassing Eddie Duffy, who succeeded her as the traffic warden in Bundoran.
Ms McCafferty worked for Bundoran Town Council from 2000 to 2007 when she was dismissed for claiming that the local authority was "corrupt".
The court heard that the alleged incidents took place on eight different dates between April 17 and September 16, 2012, at the townlands of Finner and Drumacrin in Bundoran.
Mr Duffy told Judge Mary Devins that while the matter had been ongoing since 2007, the first occasion that he reported to gardai occurred in April 2012, when Ms McCafferty had driven up to his van in her vehicle and pointed a camera at him before driving away.
In June of that year, Mr Duffy was at the council yard when he heard the locked gates being rattled.
"I went out and found Ms McCafferty with her two hands inside the bars, taking a snapshot of me. I went inside to get my camera and took photos of her myself as proof of what was happening," he said.
Mr Duffy said he was told by his children on July 12 of that year that there was a video of him on YouTube.
Ms McCafferty (39), of Main Street in Bundoran, represented herself and accused Mr Duffy of taking pictures at the rear of her family home and intimidating her mother.
Mr Duffy replied that he only took photos of vehicles that were illegally parked.
Ms McCafferty told the court that when she ran as a candidate in the Donegal County Council and Bundoran Town Council Local Elections in 2009, she was approached by members of the public who raised concerns about the manner in which Mr Duffy carried out his duties. "I decided the only way that I could document his actions was to upload videos of him on to YouTube," she said.
Judge Devins adjourned the case to consider the legal issues raised. The matter will be mentioned on February 7 at Ballyshannon District Court when a date will be fixed for Judge Devins to return to deliver her judgment.
