A PRIEST faces four charges of intimidation following a garda investigation into claims by an alleged victim of clerical abuse that efforts had been made to stop him making a complaint to gardai.

Father Francis Kelleher has been charged with four offences of coercion, under section nine of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

Fr Kelleher, who gave his address as The Presbytery, Dunbar Street, Cork, appeared before Bandon District Court on June 11.

It is alleged he used intimidation to compel a named man to abstain from doing an act, which he had a lawful right to do.

The offences were all alleged to have taken place in the Bandon district of Co Cork on January 8 last year, July 8, 2012, July 6, 2012, and June 7, 2012.

Fr Kelleher (58) was remanded on bail to appear again in court on July 4.
