Pig farm pair face reduced threat charges

Published 20/12/2012 | 05:00

A pig farmer and his wife have had a charge of threatening to kill two men from a repossession company reduced to causing them serious harm.

The jury retired to consider a verdict at Longford Circuit Court in the case of Donal and Margaret Connaughton, who face six charges each of false imprisonment, threatening to cause serious harm and assault. Mr Connaughton also faces two charges of criminal damage.

The couple, from Elfeet in Co Longford, deny the charges.

The court heard Mr Connaughton produced a boar and told Patrick Mulvey and Justin Tighe, of Assets Security, to strip and get into a pen with the animal, but the farmer said he produced the boar to get them to leave. The case resumes today.
