Parents 'assaulted teen after she posted explicit pictures on Facebook', court hears
THE parents of a 15-year-old girl have appeared in court accused of assaulting her after she posted promiscuous pictures of herself on Facebook.
The teen's father was was before Cork District Court yesterday, while her mother was also in court facing sentencing on a charge of assault causing harm to her, the Irish Examiner reports.
The court heard that the alleged assaults occurred on the same day.
The teen told gardaí that her father assaulted her after he saw her using her phone despite being asked not to.
She alleged that her father pulled her hair and kicked her on the ground, a claim he denied.
Afterwards she left their home and when she returned the assault by her mother took place. The teenager claimed that her mother slapped her across the face and kicked her.
The gardai involved in the case told the court that the girl's face bore the mark of the sole of her mother’s shoe after the attack.
Inspector Ronan Kennelly told the court that the incident arose after the teenager posted photos of herself on social media which her parents objected to.
Solicitor, Leo Murphy, said her parents had become concerned about substance abuse, promiscuity, and self-harm by their 15-year-old daughter.
“She was posting inappropriate pictures of herself on Facebook,” Mr Murphy said.
The judge said the girl, who has not been identified for legal reasons, was entitled to give a victim impact statement.
The teenager is no longer living with her family.
