Oil-slip Dunnes Stores worker awarded €133,000 special damages on top of €70,000

A DUNNES Stores worker has been awarded €133,000 in special damages - on top of €70,000 she had already secured - over injuries she sustained in a workplace accident.

Eileen Monahan was last week awarded €70,000 after she slipped on an olive oil spill on the floor of Dunnes ILAC store in Dublin city

centre.  

The issue of special damages was adjourned until today at the High Court.

Ms Justice Mary  Irvine added agreed special damages, making a total of €203,652.

The 55-year old woman who has worked in Dunnes for 30 years  was also awarded costs.

Ms Monahan,Beneavin Road, Glasnevin, Dublin  had sued Dunnes as a result of the accident on December 1, 2006.

Ms Justice Irvine granted a stay on €80,000 of the award, pending an appeal in the Supreme Court, meaning the remainder must be paid out unless an appeal against the stay is also lodged.
