CHILLING new CCTV images have emerged showing tragic Jill Meagher’s final steps down a Melbourne street.
The chilling images were released after Adrian Ernest Bayley, 41, pleaded guilty to raping Drogheda native Ms Meagher once in a laneway, but said he would fight charges of murdering the 29-year-old ABC employee.
He also pleaded not guilty to two more charges of rape.
Jill’s husband Tom, from Cabinteely in Dublin, quickly left the court room after Mr Bayley entered his plea.
Her parents, George and Edith McKeon, and her brother Michael were also in attendance.
Mr Bayley sat in the dock behind protective glass, flanked by three guards.
The new CCTV video shows Ms Meagher, who appears to be on her mobile phone, slowly walking down Sydney Road after a night out with colleagues in Brunswick.
A man then sprints across the screen after her.
Chief Crown Prosecutor Gavin Silbert SC said Bayley dragged Ms Meagher into a laneway as she walked home from a Brunswick bar in the early hours of September 22 last year.
He had then allegedly raped Ms Meagher three times before strangling her.
A witness testified that she heard a woman repeatedly say "get out of there" in a loud voice in the laneway where Ms Meagher was attacked.
Ms Meagher had been socialising with work colleagues until shortly before coming into contact with Mr Bayley.
