The jury in the trial of a 23-year-old man charged with murdering his father was sent home for a second night last night after failing to reach a verdict.
James McInerney, of Lacey Avenue, Templemore, Co Tipperary, has pleaded not guilty to murdering 56-year-old James 'Jimmy' McInerney Snr at the family home on June 17, 2009.
The five women and seven men of the jury have spent almost six hours deliberating following the week-long trial, and have been told they can reach a majority verdict.
The jurors were shown the alleged murder weapon, a spade, as well as a wheel brace found at the scene.
