A Bolivian mother of two who transported cocaine valued at more than €50,000 internally in an effort to get money to support her children has been jailed for two-and-a-half years.
Maria Ester Coupi Antelo (25), of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of cocaine for sale or supply at Dublin Airport on June 10, 2012. She has been in custody since her arrest and has no previous convictions.
Judge Martin Nolan noted that Antelo had carried the drugs for monetary reward due to her straitened circumstances and that her two children were in need of her affection and care.
However, he said that it was a serious offence bringing that quantity of drugs into the country.
