Mayoman pleads not guilty to murdering his mother

By Natasha Reid

A 22-YEAR-OLD Mayo man has admitted killing his mother almost three years ago, but he has denied her murder and will go on trial later this week.

Celyn Eadon of Derrycrieve, Islandeady, Castlebar was before the Central Criminal Court today, charged with murdering Noreen Kelly.

When arraigned, he pleaded not guilty to murdering the 46-year-old, but guilty to her manslaughter at that address on March 9, 2011.

Isobel Kennedy SC, prosecuting, said that plea was not acceptable to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mr Justice Paul Carney then swore in a jury of seven men and five women to hear the murder trial, which is due to start on Thursday.
