Man's joyride to celebrate All-Ireland win

A DONEGAL football fan celebrated the county's All-Ireland win by going on a 25km joyride on a stolen quad bike, a court has heard.

Fergus McCarry (20) admitted stealing the quad from the beach at Rathmullan in September last year.

He was a passenger on the bike when he was stopped by gardai in Letterkenny, Letterkenny District Court heard.

His solicitor Niall Sheridan told Judge Paul Kelly: "I can assure you that this incident has had a great effect on him and his family.

"It was the day of the All-Ireland final and Mr McCarry had been drinking all day and he did allow himself to be carried from Rathmullan to Letterkenny."

Judge Paul Kelly adjourned sentencing on Mr McCarry, from Madlin Park in Rathmullan, until March.
