Man to appear in court in connection with garda investigation into the murder of Brigid Maguire

A male in his 50s is expected to appear in court this afternoon charged in connection with the garda investigation into the murder of Brigid Maguire.

The man will appear before a sitting of Longford District Court today.

Ms Maguire, a 43-year-old care assistant from Main Street, Ballynacargy, Co Westmeath, was found dead on Saturday.

Her body is understood to have been found by her teenage daughter at around 9.30pm and she raised the alarm.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted and Ms Maguire's remains were transferred to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar and later to the hospital in Tullamore, Co Offaly, where a post-mortem was carried out yesterday.

A post-mortem was performed by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Linda Mulligan.
