Man pleads not guilty to murdering his father by reason of insanity

A 35-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to murdering his elderly father by reason of insanity.

John Biggins of Ballynalty, Cross, Claremorris, Co Mayo, is charged with the murder of Thomas Biggins (71) at that address on May 6th 2012.

He was arraigned before the Central Criminal Court yesterday and entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.

Mr Justice Paul Carney then swore in a jury of seven men and five women to hear his trial, which will open on Thursday and is expected to last two days.
