Alun Kinney Evans (34) had previously denied murdering Margaret Evans in Portstewart, Co Derry on June 4, 2014.

At Antrim Crown Court sitting in Belfast, Evans pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of his mother on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Ms Evans, a 69-year old hairdresser who was known as locally as Margo, was found dead in the Knockancor Drive home she shared with her son.

Mr Justice Treacy remanded Evans back into custody and he will be sentenced on June 9.
