A MAN charged with the death of two children in Galway last year has been remanded on continuing bail.

John O'Connor (41) with an address at Tullinadaly Road in Tuam, Co Galway is charged with dangerous driving causing the deaths of two-year-old Kate Gilmore and her three-month-old sister, Grace, on the Milltown Road, Tuam, on October 21st last.

The case was before Galway Circuit Court today where Judge Raymond Groarke was told that the hearing would take up to four days for hearing.

Counsel of Mr O'Connor requested a trial date before Christmas telling the court that there was a difficulty with one particular witness.

The defendant's legal representatives made an application for a Section 56 Order, which is that a copy of the recording of questioning by gardai be given to the accused or their legal representatives.

The case was adjourned to October 10 next for a trial date to be set.

Judge Groarke remanded Mr O'Connor on continuing bail on the same terms as previously stipulated.

Kate and Grace Gilmore were killed on the afternoon of Sunday October 21 last when they were hit by a car while out for a walk with their father John. He also sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The family were half a mile from their Tuam home when Mr O'Connor's 2011-registered Toyota Avensis collided with their twin buggy.
