Man jailed for having sex with underage black girls
A MAN who admitted to having a 'fascination' with black girls has been jailed for two years after he had sex with two teens of African origin.
Keith O'Donnell (33) pleaded guilty to nine counts of defilement of the two girls -- aged 14 and 15 -- on dates in 2006 and 2008.
He appeared in Limerick Circuit Criminal Court before Judge Carroll Moran yesterday.
The two girls were daughters of immigrants from Africa.
The case came about after the Nigerian mother of the 14 year old told gardai of her concern after her daughter went missing on a night in 2008. She told gardai her daughter was in the company of her boyfriend, who she understood to be a 17 year old named Brian.
Messages of a highly sexual nature from the defendant were found on the young teen's phone by gardai.
When questioned, O'Donnell admitted to knowing the young girl. He said he told the girl he was 20 years old and claimed she told him that she was 16. The girl told gardai they had engaged in sexual intercourse on a number of occasions.
O'Donnell, of Smith O'Brien Avenue, Kileely, Limerick, also admitted to having a sexual relationship with a 15 year old from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A subsequent search of the defendant's home revealed pornographic DVDs featuring black women and women dressed as schoolgirls.
Judge Moran was told that O'Donnell knew what he was doing was wrong.
"He admitted to being fascinated with black girls," barrister John O'Sullivan told a previous sitting.
Judge Moran said aggravating factors in the case included that the defendant had preyed on the young girls and manipulated them by giving them gifts, including mobile phone credit. The judge said the offences were very serious matters and he took a very serious view on it.
He acknowledged that there were also some mitigating factors that should be considered when determining a sentence.
These included the early indication of a guilty plea and the fact that the O'Donnell cooperated with gardai.
The judge noted that the defendant volunteered information on the incidents to gardai and had no previous convictions.
O'Donnell has been out of work since Christmas and suffers with scoliosis of the spine. A psychologists' report noted that he had a "fetish for black women", but advised there was a low risk he would reoffend.
Judge Moran sentenced him to two years' imprisonment for all nine defilement offences.
