Man goes on trial charged with murder of Martin Brophy two-and-a-half years ago

A man has gone on trial charged with the murder of Martin Brophy in Waterford two-and-a-half years ago.

William Moran (20), of Connolly Place, Waterford City is charged with the murder of Martin Brophy at the old Waterford Institute of Technology building between May 20 and May 21 2012.

When asked how he pleaded to the charge, Mr Moran said “not guilty”.

Mr Justice Patrick J McCarthy told the jury of eight women and four men today that the trial is expected to last three weeks. The trial is expected to open tomorrow in the Central Criminal Court before Mr Justice McCarthy.
