A man charged with posing as a gynaecologist and then sexually assaulting a young woman has been remanded for trial.
The 59-year-old appeared before Cork Circuit Criminal Court and was remanded by Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin for trial today. The man denies a total of three charges.
All involve an address in Cork city.
The charges include that he portrayed himself as a qualified medical practitioner, namely a gynaecologist, between September 11 and 20, 2014.
He is further charged with sexually assaulting a young woman on September 18 last.
No details of the alleged assault have been given as yet.
The woman is in her 20s and cannot be identified.
The man is also charged with obtaining €4,000 by deception from the woman.
This was for gynaecological services to be provided at a clinic in Switzerland, it is claimed. The State argued the money was obtained dishonestly.
The defendant was originally charged before Judge Leo Malone in Cork District Court.
Detective Garda Denise Callinan served the book of evidence on the defendant.
He was remanded to the Circuit Court for trial by judge and jury on the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) by application of Inspector Pat Meaney.
