Man faces trial for murder of Aoife Phelan (30)
A Portlaoise man will go on trial tomorrow charged with murdering a 30-year-old woman at Capoley Portlaoise in 2012.
Robert Corbet (25) of Sheffield Cross County Laois was arraigned at Dublin Central Criminal Court today.
Dressed in a grey suit and tie, the accused pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter.
The court heard that Mr Corbets plea of manslaughter was not accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions from Isobel Kennedy SC prosecuting.
The court heard that the deceased Aoife Phelan had been working at Hermitage in Portlaoise prior to her death.
The alleged murder took place between 25 October and 7 November 2012 at Capoley Portlaoise.
The trial is expected to last two weeks before Justice Garrett Sheehan and a jury of three women and nine men.
