A man has been charged with the manslaughter of an outdoor sports enthusiast who died from a gunshot wound to his head and neck.
Trevor O'Gorman (44) appeared before Cork District Court on a single charge of the unlawful killing of his friend, Diarmuid Byrne (41), on April 26 last at Plunkett Road, Ballyphehane in Cork.
Mr O'Gorman of Sarahville Place, Pouladuff Road, Cork did not address the court during the brief hearing.
Garda Sergeant Mark Canny said that, after he was arrested, cautioned and charged at Togher Garda Station, Mr O'Gorman made no reply.
Judge Leo Malone was told the matter will be dealt with by indictment before Cork Circuit Criminal Court on the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Inspector Billy Dwane said the book of evidence in the matter is not yet ready.
Insp Dwane said the State had no objection to Mr O'Gorman being remanded on bail once he signs on daily at Togher Garda Station and surrenders his passport.
Judge Malone remanded Mr O'Gorman on bail to appear again on December 21 next.
He granted free legal aid and appointed solicitor Majella Graham after being told that Mr O'Gorman is unemployed.
