Man arrested and weapons seized following public order incident

A man has been arrested and a firearm has been seized following an incident in Dundalk yesterday evening.

The 33-year-old man was arrested by Gardai on Barrack Street, Dundalk as they responded to a call of public order at approximately 7pm.

Gardai arrested the man after he became violently aggressive and discovered a firearm in the man’s bag.  Six ‘locking’ knives were also seized.

The firearm was removed for forensic examination.

The man is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
