Man (41) pleads not guilty to murdering his brother by reason of insanity

A 41-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to murdering his brother by reason of insanity.

Declan O'Cualain with an address at An Caoran Beag, An Cheathru Rua, Co Galway is charged with murdering Adrian Folan (O'Cualain) at Lislorkin North, Liscannor, Co Clare on July 4 2014.

Today at the Central Criminal Court Mr O'Cualain pleaded not guilty to murdering Mr Folan by reason of insanity.

This morning Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy told the jury of nine men and three women that the case will take no more than a day but they will be needed to serve until the end of the week.

"I believe it will start on Thursday and if you could be available until the end of the week. It will be dealt with by Ms Justice Heneghan," said Mr Justice McCarthy.
