Man (39) was drunk while in charge of child

A MAN who was found to be drunk in charge of a child aged under seven must have been "completely wild" to behave as he did, a judge has said.

Martin Maguire (39), of Willowbrook, Glencar, Letterkenny, Donegal, was seen by a garda on January 17, 2012, pushing a buggy with a child in it. He stumbled against a wall, causing the buggy to sway from side-to-side. Garda Shane Lavelle and a colleague arrested him and took the child to the garda station for safety.

Maguire pleaded guilty to being drunk in charge of a child under seven years of age.

Judge Denis McLoughlin, at Letterkenny District Court, said: "He must have been completely wild. Drink is no excuse."

He ordered a report from the Probation Service and adjourned the case until March 21.
