John Flaherty (24), of Ard Daire, Ferrybank, Waterford, is charged with murdering Patrick Murphy (27) at The Glen in Waterford early on Sunday.

He was arrested on Sunday morning and charged with the murder, Waterford District Court heard yesterday.

The accused -- wearing a black hoodie-style top -- spoke with family members before and after his brief court appearance yesterday evening. He was not called to speak during the hearing.

The court was told he made "no reply" to the charge at Waterford garda station.

Judge Gerard Furlong said he wasn't in a position to consider any bail application. He remanded the accused in custody to appear at Waterford court again on Friday.
