Man (23) charged with murder of teenager Melanie

A 23-YEAR-OLD man was yesterday charged with the murder of teenager Melanie McCarthy-McNamara.
Friends of the young Traveller shouted abuse and heckled Keith Hall after the brief hearing in Tallaght District Court. The parents of Melanie's partner, Christopher Moran, were visibly upset during the hearing. Mr Hall is accused of shooting dead the 16-year-old on February 7 in Tallaght. He was also charged with possession of a double-barrel sawn-off shotgun, with intent to commit an indictable offence. The accused, who remained silent throughout the hearing, was wearing a dark hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms.
The court was told Mr Hall, of Kilmartin Drive, Tallaght, Dublin, made no reply when charged by Detective Garda Michael McGrath yesterday.
He was one of two people arrested five days ago in connection with the teenager's death. Mr Hall will be held in custody for the remainder of the week, pending an appearance at Cloverhill Court. Meanwhile, a 17-year-old -- who cannot be named because he is underage -- also appeared in court charged with unrelated offences He pleaded guilty at previous court hearings to charges relating to possession of heroin. He is due to be sentenced next week.
He is also facing charges of possession of a shotgun and possession of shotgun cartridges.
He was also remanded in custody.
