Man (20) remanded on assault charge
A MAN was charged yesterday following an assault after which a 27-year-old Polish later died in hospital
Lukasz Rzeszutko had been on his way to work from his nearby north Dublin home when he was attacked at the Newtown Industrial Estate in Coolock in the early hours of Saturday.
A passerby found Mr Rzeszutko lying on a road in the Newtown Industrial Estate in Coolock at around 5am.
He had sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Beaumont Hospital where he died yesterday evening.
Gardai arrested three men following the incident and one of them appeared at Dublin District Court yesterday in connection with the attack.
Two other men were still being questioned at seperate garda stations last night.
Detective Garda Niall Gibbs told Judge David McHugh that Edward Byrne (20), with an address at a YMCA hostel in Dublin 8, was arrested on Sunday evening and that he made "no reply" when he was charged with assault causing harm to Mr Rzeszutko.
Defence solicitor John Feeney told Judge McHugh that his client, who was dressed in a grey hooded top, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers and who remained silent during the court proceedings, was deferring a bail application until Friday.
Judge McHugh said that given the seriousness of the charges he was remanding him in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Friday.
Legal aid was granted after the court heard that Byrne was unemployed.
