A 27-YEAR-OLD man accused of murdering a shop manager in Kilkenny earlier this month was further remanded in custody today.
Shane Smyth of McGuinness House, Evans Lane, Kilkenny City, was charged last Saturday morning with the murder of Mairead Moran, 26, who was fatally stabbed on May 8 last while she was at work in the Holland and Barrett health shop in Kilkenny City’s Market Cross shopping centre.
At his first hearing, at a special sitting of Kilkenny District last, he had been remanded in custody and a request was made for a psychiatric assessment.
Mr Smyth, who was not working and on disability allowance, had said, “Not at this moment,” after he was charged and asked if he had any reply.
Today, he appeared at Cloverhill District Court where he was further remanded in custody for another two weeks by Judge Grainne Malone.
