THE property developer who claimed to have been kidnapped for eight months will be charged today in connection with his alleged abduction.
Mayo-born Kevin McGeever (68) was arrested by detectives at his apartment in Clontarf, Dublin, yesterday evening.
He was immediately taken by officers to Gort, Co Galway, where the investigation into his disappearance and subsequent allegations of abduction has been headquartered.
He was held overnight in Gort and will appear today at Strokestown District Court in Co Roscommon on two charges.
Mr McGeever had been detained previously in March under the Criminal Justice Act, which contains provisions for wasting garda time and making false allegations.
He was found wandering along a rural road outside Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, last January and told gardai he had been abducted by a group of men in May last year although his disappearance was not reported to the gardai until June.
He said he had been dumped out of a van by his captors and did not know where he had been held since he was taken at gunpoint from the garden of his mansion at Craughwell, Co Galway. Mr McGeever told gardai his kidnappers had demanded a ransom before they would let him go.
As gardai launched inquiries here and overseas, Mr McGeever was admitted to Mullingar Hospital where he was treated for malnutrition and dehydration.
When he was found on the roadway, he looked feeble and had lost over five stone in weight.
He had also grown a long beard and fingernails and an insult had been inscribed across his forehead with a pen.
