A JURY in the Central Criminal Court trial of a Cork man accused of raping his former partner’s teenage sister has been discharged after failing to reach a verdict.

The 35-year-old man had pleaded not guilty to two charges of raping the then 15-year-old in his Cork home on dates between February and September 2004.

The jury of six men and six women had been deliberating for almost three hours when they indicated that they were unable to reach a verdict.

Mr Justice Paul Carney thanked the jury for their service and excused them from further duty for ten years.
