Jury dismissed after murder trial collapses

A MURDER trial has collapsed at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.

Michael Furlong (36), of Meadowfield, The Moyne, Enniscorthy, denied murdering Patrick Connors (37) between April 28 and April 29, 2011, at the Carraig Tur apartments in Enniscorthy.

Mr Justice Barry White told the jury of seven men and five woman that "certain concerns" had arisen relating to Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jabbar's opinion as to the "mechanism of death" in the case.

"In the light of these concerns it would not be appropriate to let the matter continue before you," he added as he discharged the jury.
