A motorist who had a Donegal All-Ireland winning captain as a passenger was acquitted of dangerous driving causing the death of another driver.
A jury at Donegal Circuit Court yesterday unanimously acquitted Paul Murrin (48) of dangerous driving causing the death of Daithi White (38) on the N15 on January 24 last year.
Mr Murrin, of Ballymagowan, Dunkineely, and his passenger, 1992 Donegal GAA captain Anthony Molloy, were both injured.
Mr Murrin told the jury yesterday that he recognised he had a head-on collision on the wrong side of the road but denied that he told a garda that he took his eye off the road.
A prosecution garda claimed Mr Murrin told her at the scene that he took his eye off the road while having tea and a sandwich in the car.
