Judge sends sex offender back to Britain
A 36-YEAR-OLD software engineer who is on the Sex Offenders Register in the UK over the possession of child pornography has been ordered to return there after he travelled to Ireland without notifying authorities.
Timothy Haughton was sentenced to nine months' jail at Dundalk District Court but Judge Flann Brennan suspended the sentence on the condition he travelled back to the UK "to face what awaits him there".
He spent the last three weeks in custody after he was arrested on October 16 last outside Dundalk.
His solicitor, Dermot Lavery, said the defendant accepted he had broken the law, but urged that he had suffered an extremely hard penalty for his wrongdoing.
