Irishman sues R&B star over stage-dive collision
US R&B star Akon is being sued by an Irishman who claims he was injured when the singer jumped from the stage during a concert in Dublin and collided with him.
Jason Harkin (20), of Milltown estate, Ashbourne, Co Meath, claims he suffered injuries to his nose and face following an incident at Akon's RDS concert on January 27, 2009.
He is seeking damages against the Grammy-nominated Akon, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam; music event management firm Grooveyard Ltd, of Moycullen Business Park, Moycullen, Co Galway; and Sword Risk Services Ltd, trading as Sword Event Guard, The Halls, Quay Street, Galway, which it is claimed provided security at the performance.
Yesterday in the High Court, Mr Justice Sean Ryan granted Mr Harkin's lawyers an order allowing them to serve notice of the proceedings to Akon through his management company, American Talent Agency Inc, in New York.
Mr Harkin was hospitalised for two days and claims he still suffers from breathing problems.
