HEALTH service bosses will ask the High Court today for orders permitting doctors to tube-feed a young woman with anorexia nervosa.
She weighs 25kg and her condition is "extremely severe".
The woman, aged in her 20s, is in hospital and a sharp decline in her condition prompted the application.
Sara McKechnie BL, for the Health Services Executive (HSE), applied ex parte, with one side only represented, to the President of the High Court yesterday for leave to serve short notice of the application on the woman and also on a solicitor who had represented her in another matter.
Counsel said the woman's parents were aware of, and supported, the HSE's application.
The woman was "absolutely not supportive" of the application, counsel added.
