A THIEF who travelled 300km to carry out a spate of car robberies in which laptops, iPhones and even bottles of holy water were stolen has been banned from returning to the county.

Karl Lydon (24) pleaded guilty to stealing thousands of euro worth of items from five vehicles at the weekend.

Lydon, of The Orchard, Friar Street, Thurles, Co Tipperary, was arrested by gardai in Ballybofey, Co Donegal, just hours after Saturday's robberies there.

Judge Paul Kelly at Letterkenny District Court imposed a night-time curfew, ordered Lydon to sign on at Thurles garda station three times each week and not to enter Co Donegal again until his next court appearance on March 10. The judge agreed to allow gardai to return all the stolen property to the owners.
