Hairstylist's son charged with assault and selling heroin
THE son of celebrity hairdresser David Marshall and Jackie Rafter has appeared in court accused of assault and selling heroin.
Daniel Marshall (23) is also charged with stealing a €102 Nike tracksuit and attacking a man on the Luas.
He allegedly left an 18-year-old with blood down the side of his face following the assault.
He has denied the assault, telling a judge that he was headbutted first.
Daniel's father is one of the country's top stylists. His mother is well known for her work as a model and founder of the Bubblegum charity. The couple are now divorced.
Their son, of Coppinger Glade in Stillorgan, appeared before Dun Laoghaire District Court charged with seriously assaulting Yaroslav Kovshikov.
The court was also told that he was caught with two bags of heroin at Marlborough Street, Dublin 1 on March 2, 2012, and that he stole a Nike tracksuit worth €102 from JD Sports in Dundrum Town Centre on December 4 last. The judge said the alleged assault on the Luas at Balally, Dundrum on July 8 must have been extremely frightening and upsetting for the victim.
However, Marshall told the court he was headbutted first, claiming that CCTV coverage will prove this.
Sgt McCann said Mr Kovshikov, who turns 19 this year, was on the Luas with a friend when he was approached by Marshall.
Judge Reilly said she would accept jurisdiction of the allegation, meaning the matter will be disposed of in the district court. The judge adjourned the matter for six weeks to a date in June.
