A DUBLIN youth accused of the murder of German student Thomas Heinrich has been released after his grandmother agreed to stand bail for him.

Mr Heinrich, a 22-year-old student from Munich, was stabbed in his stomach during an incident outside his apartment at St Anthony's Road, Rialto, in Dublin's south inner city on December 1 last. His friend Robert Rinker (22) suffered life-threatening injuries.

Last week, a 16-year-old schoolboy, who cannot be named, and Wesley Kelly (19), of St Anthony's Road, Rialto, Dublin, were remanded in custody. They had been charged at the Dublin Children's Court with the murder of Mr Heinrich and assault causing serious harm to Mr Rinker. Yesterday Mr Kelly appeared again at the Children's Court. Counsel told Judge John O'Connor that the grandmother was willing to act as an independent surety for the youth's bail which had been set at €3,000.

The unemployed youth was ordered to appear next month when he and his co-defendant are to be served with books of evidence. On Tuesday, the 16-year-old was granted bail with similar conditions. The teenagers have not yet indicated how they will be pleading.
