Garda in court on series of theft charges

A GARDA who is a former inter-county footballer has been remanded on bail after being charged with a series of theft offences.

Garda Noel Fitzhenry, who is attached to Glynn station in Co Wexford and a native of Kiltealy, Enniscorthy, appeared before Wexford district court yesterday.

He was remanded on his own bail of €300 by Judge Gerard Haughton on the application of Det Insp John Hunt. There was no objection to the application.

The charges arise from an investigation into allegations that he dishonestly obtained sums of money from a number of people between 2010 and 2012.

He has been suspended from the force since November, pending the outcome of the case.
