A GARDA has pleaded guilty to two counts of defilement of a child.
Damien Jermyn (29) of 4 Main Street, Bantry, Co Cork, appeared before Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
The serving garda, who was dressed in a grey suit, did not speak during the short hearing only to say "guilty" twice to the two charges.
Jermyn is currently suspended from the force pending the outcome of the investigation. He was stationed at Killarney.
He is charged with being engaged in a sexual act with the boy who was under the age of 17 at the time of the offence.
The first count related to incidents at a location in Co Cork on January 19, 2011, and the second offence occurred on a date between February 1 and February 5, 2011.
The State alleged that Jermyn had engaged in oral sex with the 16-year-old victim on both occasions.
Tom Creed, for the defence, asked Judge Patrick Moran to adjourn the case for sentence. Siobhan Lankford, prosecuting counsel, said the State had no objection.
Judge Moran remanded the garda on continuing bail until November 8 for sentencing.
An order was made that no details can be published in relation to the victim or any details that may identify him.
