Fraud trial for Clayton's ex-PA

THE former personal assistant of Adam Clayton will stand trial next year on charges relating to the alleged embezzlement of millions of euro from the U2 bass guitarist.

Carol Hawkins (48) of Leinster Road, Rathmines, Dublin 6, was charged in the district court in January of 184 counts under the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001.

The charges relate to theft of various sums of money up to €3m from bank accounts in the name of Mr Clayton on dates from 2005 until 2008.

The trial date was set yesterday for April 2012.
